Martin Kaube was a maintenance worker at Broadside Beach, typically working long hours and doing overtime. Down on his luck and low on cash, Martin made the move to Broadside Beach both as a getaway and as an honest attempt to make a living.

Martin often found himself having to pick up on the slack left behind by his coworkers, as his conscience wouldn't simply let others be at risk of injury. Unfortunately, this habit of overworking himself was the very thing that cost him his life. While attempting to repair a faulty roller coaster car, his exhausted state caused him to not follow the proper safety protocols - and as he began to climb from the car, the safety bar locked down, leaving him hanging halfway out as the ride began to start. He met a swift end by decapitation, as his head made contact with railing at high speeds.

Fortunately for Broadside staff, this specific section of the park was closed, making it easy to cover up his death. He was assigned the role of Lenny Lemur's Starling counterpart.

Personality[]

Martin was a hardworking and rather compassionate person, tending to put others' safety far in front of his own. Despite this, he wasn't prone to talking, instead choosing not to engage in conversation unless necessary.

Lenny Lemur[]

Likewise to the other Starlings, Martin's head and body were taken to StudioGrounds Innovative Laboratory, where he was prepped for conversion. Reattaching the head would be too complicated given the violent way it was ripped from his shoulders, so a different route was taken - his severed head was shoved up and into his chest cavity. After being exposed to the Starling material, hopes weren't very high - Nobody expected that a headless Starling would ever have a chance for success. But they were wrong. Due to lacking a head, Martin would often be seen bumping into walls, or tripping over objects. Over time though, his ability to maneuver greatly improved, and he was eventually set loose to roam StudioGrounds. He did surprisingly well, considering that Lenny Lemur wasn't nearly as popular as the other Broadside characters. The empty space in his mask would prove to be an issue however, as guests began to complain about a buzzing sound emitting from him constantly.

Following the Great Stampede, Martin was likewise relocated to Nulla Terra. While on the island, Martin actively avoided the other Starlings, resulting in him not bearing any influence on the creation of Husk or Vandal. He still resides there, the lack of support in his head causing it to collapse, exposing his bare flesh to the elements, and causing many horrific infections.

SHIPWRECKED[]

Martin (as well as Lenny) was originally planned to appear in SHIPWRECKED 64, but was never added for unknown reasons. It's possible that the others simply respected his wishes to be left alone. His models were never created, though concept art has since been recovered.

Trivia[]

  • Martin's mascot head is completely hollow, housing nothing but a webbing of Starling matter, and a honeybee hive.
  • Martin leaks a putrid mix of black blood and honey, making him highly infectious.
  • The bees that live inside his head may be capable of spreading infection, approach with the proper safety equipment if performing a check-up.
